The Iron Men

Today I received the following story and video in an email from my daughter's fiance. After watching it I knew I had to put it on the blog. Please do not skip over this post. It is an amazing picture of God's grace, goodness and strength for our lives. He has done all the work and now carries us in our daily lives. The video makes it all clear, but read the following first:

A son asked his father, "Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?" The father, despite having a heart condition, said "Yes". They went on to complete the marathon together. This father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying ''Yes" to his son's request to go through the race together. One day, the son said to his father, "Dad, let's join the Ironman together." To this, his father said "Yes" .

For those who don't know, the Ironman is the toughest of all triathlons. The race, which takes place in Hawaii, encompasses three endurance events. These include a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometers) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometers) bike ride, and ends with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometers) marathon along the coast of the Big Island. Father and son went on to complete the race together.

Click here to view the video of the duo.

After you see that video you will want to watch this one which tells the story of the father and son.

  1. Sharon,
What an awesome picture of what Christ did and continues to do in us! As I watched the father carry his son's poor diseased body all through the race and then was reminded of the Scripture it hit me like a ton of bricks! That is exactly how much I can do to earn my salvation and bring glory to God. Absolutely nothing! How arrogant we are to not trust completely in our Savior, to think that we have somehow earned what God has bestowed on us! I am just like that son, cheering at the end of the race when really I was just dead weight! Our Heavenly Father is so GOOD!
    Thankful For the Reminder,
    Anne

  3. Anne,
Thank you for your insight. This indeed is a picture of what we can do for God. Without Him I can do nothing. He is my strength and song. It is by Christ's work on the Cross that we are made righteous and perfected. He carries us everyday. We serve a wonderful Savior!
